Get ready, music lovers! Mitski is back, and she's bringing a whole new world of sound with her upcoming album, Nothing’s About to Happen to Me. This announcement follows weeks of anticipation, fueled by cryptic hints, including a post-credits scene from her 2025 concert film.
This highly anticipated album, slated for release on February 27th via Dead Oceans, is the successor to The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We, which was a favorite in 2023. It's a collaboration with her longtime partner, Patrick Hyland, who handled production and engineering. The album also features live orchestration, arranged and conducted by Drew Erickson.
The album's artwork and tracklist are now available, and you can pre-order your copy on vinyl, cassette, or CD.
The press release paints a vivid picture of the album's core theme: a reclusive woman living in an untidy house. Outside, she's seen as an outcast; inside, she finds freedom.
The first single, "Where’s My Phone?", perfectly captures this narrative with a mesmerizing, dreamlike video directed by Noel Paul, inspired by Shirley Jackson’s novel We Have Always Lived in the Castle.
But here's where it gets controversial... This concept of finding freedom within oneself, regardless of external perceptions, can be interpreted in many ways. Do you think this is a reflection of modern society's expectations?
