By the Emperor's light, these miniatures are truly exceptional! A whole host of new models are ready to bolster the Legio Custodes ranks and take the fight directly to the Warmaster. The Emperor's personal protectors have never looked so magnificent.
Leading the charge is the mighty Legio Custodes Battle Group box – essentially a miniature army in its own right, and the perfect starting point for any aspiring Custodes commander. Let's dive into the units:
- Custodian Guard: These are the quintessential image of the Custodians we all know and love: towering figures wielding guardian spears, adorned with high-plumed helmets and clad in glorious golden armor. The kit includes options for bare heads and command staff, including a vexilla. And here's a fun fact for Warhammer 40,000 fans: these models are also perfect for representing Custodian Guard in an Adeptus Custodes army!
- Custodian Sentinels: Similar to the Guard, but instead of guardian spears, they wield sentinel warblades and praesidium shields. They offer the same customization options, and yes, you guessed it – they also make fantastic additions to a Warhammer 40,000 Adeptus Custodes force.
The Legio Custodes boast the finest weaponry and wargear in the Imperium, and their armored vehicles are no exception.
- Caladius Annihilator Grav-tank: This tank is one of the most dangerous armored units of its size in the Age of Darkness. Equipped with a versatile Arachnus blaze carronade (capable of obliterating tank hulls or mowing down heavy infantry) and hull-mounted weapons like twin lastrum bolt cannons or the brand-new twin neutronium cascade projector, it's a main battle tank, but better.
The Legio Custodes also employ Dreadnoughts to allow grievously wounded warriors to continue fighting. The forthcoming Custodes Battle Group includes a spectacular new plastic Contemptor kit.
- Contemptor Dreadnought: This is a truly versatile model, able to be built as either a Contemptor-Achillus (with the signature Achillus dreadspear) or a Contemptor-Galatus (with a Galatus warblade and praesidium shield). This gives you two very different Dreadnought types, each with unique battlefield roles: the Contemptor-Achillus deals a whopping Damage 3 with its spear, making short work of enemy armor, while the Contemptor-Galatus excels at crowd control with its flamer, warblade, and shield. The poseability is fantastic, allowing for dynamic and exciting builds!
All Custodians are incredible warriors, but the most elite are elevated to the rank of Shield Captain. The new Shield Captain miniature is worthy of such an honor. The level of detail is simply astounding!
If you watched the video, you've also caught a glimpse of other Legio Custodes kits:
- Venatari: With the distinctive Aquila on their backs, the Venatari swoop into battle to exploit enemy weaknesses, cutting them down with kinetic destroyers, bucklers, or Verutum lances. These are fast-moving, hard-hitting warriors whose lighter armor is more than compensated for by the brutal power of their weapons.
- Second Caladius Grav-tank: The signature weapon of the Caladius is a twin Iliastus accelerator cannon, which unleashes six Strength 8 shots per turn – more than enough to turn medium and light vehicles into scrap metal or obliterate heavy infantry.
- Legio Custodes Coronus Grav Carrier: When you need to get your Custodians safely to where the fighting is thickest, this heavily armored, swift, and Deepstrike-capable transport is essential. It can carry seven standard Custodians (or one squad and a character) and offers significant fire support with its twin Arachnus blaze cannon or lastrum bolt cannons.
But here's where it gets controversial... Where can you find the lore and rules for all these models? Enter Liber Custodes – the essential guide for using the Legio Custodes in your games. It details the Custodians themselves, along with the Sisters of Silence and an addendum covering the Agents of the Divisio Assassinorum. These latter two forces exist outside the formal Legio Custodes structure and can be used as allies (or as a stand-alone force, in the case of the Sisters of Silence).
You'll also find the rules for two of the Emperor's most famous warriors: Captain-General Constantin Valdor and Knight-Commander of the Silent Sisterhood, Jenetia Krole.
We've hinted that some of these models are perfect for use in Warhammer 40,000, and it's entirely true. A rules update for the Adeptus Custodes is planned for later this year. Several of these new miniatures are already ideal for representing existing units in Warhammer 40,000.
