Sky TV Crackdown: UK Homes Blocked from Free Streaming
A major crackdown on illegal streaming has been enforced, blocking UK homes from accessing Sky TV content for free. The action, led by the UK Police, has taken down a vast library of premium content, including Sky TV channels, and arrested four individuals in Manchester. The estimated value of the seized streaming equipment is £750,000.
The online platform, believed to have offered unauthorized access to premium content, was identified after Sky flagged suspicious activity linked to a large-scale piracy network. The investigation revealed a criminal enterprise generating millions in illegal profits. Detective Constable Jordan Day from the Police Intellectual Property Crime Unit (PIPCU) emphasized the importance of protecting broadcasting integrity and the millions who depend on it.
Sky TV's Group Director of Anti-Piracy, Matt Hibbert, welcomed the action, highlighting the risks associated with illegal streaming, such as malware and security issues. The crackdown comes as illegal streaming in the UK rises, with pirated sports streams increasing by 33% in the first half of 2025. Between 2022 and 2025, an estimated 3.6 billion illegal sports streams have been logged, causing significant concerns for broadcasters and authorities alike.
