Breaking News: Yankees Legend David Cone is Out at ESPN!
It's a tough blow for baseball fans: David Cone, the beloved former Yankees pitcher, will no longer be part of ESPN's MLB coverage. This shift comes as ESPN restructures its broadcasting schedule.
This information was first reported by Andrew Marchand of The Athletic. Cone's departure stems from ESPN's new deal with MLB, a three-year agreement valued at a staggering $550 million.
For the past four seasons, Cone has been a key part of ESPN's "Sunday Night Baseball" broadcasts, alongside Eduardo Pérez and Karl Ravech. However, ESPN's new schedule, which moves games from Sunday nights to weeknights, conflicts with Cone's existing commitments with the YES Network. At YES Network, Cone calls Yankees games with Paul O’Neill.
ESPN released a statement expressing their appreciation for Cone's contributions and wishing him well.
But here's where it gets controversial... Marchand also noted that ESPN is considering Joey Votto for their commentator lineup.
